Language and Layout from a Single Source

Foreign Language Typesetting, DTP & Subtitling

Translation and layout in a single workflow: print-ready foreign-language typesetting, plus subtitling and transcription in Latin, Cyrillic, Asian and Middle Eastern fonts.

One Team, One Result

Translation and graphic design come together under one roof. This removes the need to coordinate between two external suppliers, and avoids interface errors between translation and typesetting from the outset.

Foreign-Language Typesetting & Desktop Publishing (DTP)

Brochures and manuals that are translated into multiple languages push fixed page layouts to their limits. Text expansion and language-specific special characters change the appearance of the text. Our graphic design team first optimises the files based on formal criteria, then places the translated text into the layout. Finally, a native speaker carries out a final layout check. The result is print-ready documents that retain the character of the original.

Text expansion as a space challenge

In Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese), the target text is usually longer than the original German or English source text. We adjust the proportions of the pages accordingly, even if the target text ends up being shorter. We typeset Latin, Cyrillic, Asian and Middle Eastern scripts.

Subtitling: Making Media Accessible

Subtitles make films and videos accessible in situations where sound isn't an option, such as in public settings and for audiences who are hard of hearing or deaf. They make the content and message accessible in terms of language. Usually, this is a more cost-efficient and faster solution than producing additional audio tracks with voice talent in each language.

Transcription: Turning Speech into Text

We transcribe audio and video recordings of events, interviews and meetings for documentation and analysis purposes. On request, we can also transcribe non-verbal elements, such as gestures and facial expressions. We will clarify the scope with you in advance.

Frequently asked questions about Foreign Language Typesetting, DTP & Subtitling

Which file formats do you handle in foreign-language typesetting?

Common layout programs such as Adobe InDesign, FrameMaker, Illustrator, Acrobat PDF, QuarkXPress, CorelDRAW and Affinity, as well as Office and web formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, XML). Additional formats available on enquiry.

Why does my layout change during translation?

The reason is text expansion. In many languages, the target text is longer or shorter than the original, and there are special characters and other writing systems to consider. We adjust the layout and aspect ratios and deliver a print-ready document.

Do you deliver print-ready documents?

Yes. We place the translated texts in the layout and carry out a final check by a native speaker before delivery.

What is the difference between subtitling and an additional audio track?

Subtitles make videos accessible even without sound and for target groups with hearing impairments. They are usually more cost-effective and faster to implement than separate audio tracks for each language.

What does a transcription capture?

We transcribe spoken content from audio or video recordings and, on request, also capture non-verbal elements. We will clarify the scope with you in advance.

Are you ready for print-ready foreign-language typesetting?

Send us your document or video. We can provide layout, subtitles or transcripts tailored to your needs.
