The language from the land of ancient myths
Greece
Hello, how are you? Καλή σου μέρα πώς είσαι?
Greece (Ελλάδα) covers an area of 131,957 km² in Southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea and is surrounded by its neighbouring countries Albania, Northern Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Greece is not only known for its Mediterranean climate, its historical cities like Athens and Thessaloniki, but also for its glorious past as an advanced civilisation, in which democracy, philosophy, natural sciences as well as the classical architecture of Greece developed.
Geographically speaking, Greece consists of the mountainous mainland and 3.000 islands. Approximately 10.72 million inhabitants live in these areas. Greece's favourable location is ideally suited for the use of renewable energies. Its share of the total energy supply is not yet very pronounced, but is rising steadily.
The Greek language
Modern Greek, an Indo-European language, is the national language in Greece and Cyprus. Greek represents the oldest language which was recorded in written form and is still spoken today.
Greek still plays a major role in technical communication. Because technical terms are – besides Latin – preferably also formed using Greek words.
The Greek alphabet originated around 1,000 BC and consists of 24 letters.
Upper case:
Α, Β, Γ, Δ, Ε, Ζ, Η, Θ, Ι, Κ, Λ, Μ, Ν, Ξ, Ο, Π, Ρ, Σ, Τ, Υ, Φ, Χ, Ψ, Ω
Lower case:
α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, κ, λ, μ, ν, ξ, ο, π, ρ, σ, τ, υ, φ, χ, ψ, ω
German-Greek relations
Greece and Germany are united by culture, migration and tourism. Approximately 300,000 people with a Greek background live in Germany, and Germans greatly appreciate Greece as a holiday destination.
Both countries also maintain economic relations. Germany is one of Greece's most significant economic partners. Numerous German machines, food items and chemical products find their way to Greece. Products from Germany are very welcome in Greece. Moreover, Germany is one of the most important partners among foreign investors. Although the Greek economy attaches the greatest importance to the tourism industry and the trade sector, cooperation between Greece and Germany is increasingly taking place in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.
In the context of these close relations and the recovering Greek economy, there has been an increase in the demand for Greek translations.
