There are a few important points to bear in mind when requesting a translation to ensure that COMLOGOS can process the order without any problems later on:
- Language combination(s)
Which language combination(s) do you need (e.g. from German into UK English/ EU Portuguese…)?
- Precise indication of what is to be translated
If not all of the text is to be translated, the texts to be translated can be highlighted in color – e.g. yellow or red.
- Internal company terminology
Are there already internally defined terms in the form of glossary lists or a terminology database?
- Delivery time
By when is the translation required?
- Open format
The files to be translated should be provided in an editable format. If no editable file format such as *.doc/x, *.xls/x, *.mif/*.fm or *.idml/*.indd is available, the form in which the translation is required must be clarified. Here, the delivery can be made as unformatted continuous text or in a file converted by a graphic designer and formatted according to the source file.
- Translating words from graphics
Dealing with non-editable graphics in the text: Various translation procedures are possible here:- Words from non-editable graphics are not taken into account.
- Words from non-editable graphics are taken into account and translated in a separate bilingual Excel or Word file.
- Words from non-editable graphics are taken into account and translated with the help of text fields.
- Recommendation: Only editable graphics are embedded in the files and these can be translated directly without additional effort.
- Reference material /language rules and abbreviations:
- Are there existing texts and explanations (e.g. brochure, marketing text, …) that refer to the contents of the translation?
- Are there specific language rules that should be communicated to the translator (e.g. proper names that should not be translated, special customer addresses, etc.)?
- Are there abbreviations in the text whose meaning is unclear?
- Style
Are there any special requests regarding the translation style (e.g. for advertising texts)?
- Target group
For which group of people is the translation intended (e.g. operator, expert, customer service personnel, etc.)?
- Graphics in the text
Use the option in Word, for example, to generate embedded text
and integrate graphics – as shown here as an example.
- Contact person
Specification of a contact person for any queries regarding content.
