A market ramping up: eMobility in numbers
eMobility is growing, and with it the need for precise, multilingual specialist communication. Three figures that illustrate this growth:

The Federal Network Agency reported 196,353 publicly accessible charging points as of 1 February 2026, of which 49,904 are fast-charging points. This represents an increase of 17% on the previous year and a 34% increase for fast charging alone. The available charging capacity increased from 6.38 to 8.28 gigawatts in one year.
At the same time, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reported 545,142 new registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Germany in 2025, accounting for 19.1% of new registrations. This is a record since statistics began to be collected. By April 2026, the BEV share of new registrations had reached 25.8%.
Drivers of this momentum
Three regulatory and technological factors are accelerating the market ramp-up:
- AFIR (EU Regulation 2023/1804, effective from 13/04/2024): mandatory fast charging points every 60 km along the TEN-T core network, obligation to offer contactless payment from 50 kW, EN ISO 15118 support required for new installations from 08/01/2026.
- Expansion of ultra-fast chargers (> 299 kW): +44% year-on-year. One in three fast chargers in Germany now delivers more than 299 kW.
- Internationalisation of value chainsChinese manufacturers (BYD: +706% in registrations), US backend providers, Korean wall box OEMs are all entering the DACH market, creating a need for translation services.

Why eMobility translations are different
eMobility texts walk a fine line: they must be technically accurate (standards, protocol names, kWh values, connector types), they must be legally soand (terms and conditions, AFIR mandatory disclosures, calibration law, PSD2 compliance for payments), and they often need to be comprehensible to end customers at the same time, because the driver of an electric sedan isn't an electrical engineer.
We regularly encounter four specific challenges:
Firstly: Multi-stakeholder texts
A wall box manual, for example, must address the electrician (installation, VDE 0100, Type B RCD), the home-owner (commissioning, app pairing) and the service technician (error codes). Three tones, one document, one language. In translation, this layering must be preserved, with technical terminology used for the professional section, clear everyday language for the end-customer part and exact error code translations for servicing purposes.
Secondly: Software UI with character limits
Texts on a charging station display or in a wall box app often have strict character limits. 'Authentication failed — please present your card again' must fit in seven languages without being cut off. This requires experience of working with string files (XLIFF, JSON, .po and .properties) and the ability to creatively shorten text in the target language without losing meaning.
Thirdly: Hybrid of B2B tech and B2C marketing
A CPO annual report describes load management algorithms and, at the same time, the 'intuitive charging experience' for end customers. Fourth: Regulatory half-life
AFIR added the ISO 15118 requirement in 2025, which will take effect on 8 January 2026. DATEX II reporting obligation from 14/04/2026. Deadlines like these can quickly make texts outdated.
